The discription of sundering is armor penetration :/

20/20 is the percentages and what not which are included in sundering.

Sundering is rather good. But you'll see loads of people swear its the utmost useless worst mod ever, for whatever reason. Just use it.

Once you figure out that sundering = AP, then how about:

It depends on your build. Perhaps a zealous or silencing mod would be better. If you are as/el perhaps an elemental Tang fits the build better.

Thats cause sundering is rather poor, and the bonus damage you can attribute to it is less than what you would gain from a Vampiric mod.
To give an idea of the numbers, assuming you hit a the maximum end of your weapon range (17 in the case of daggers) [this is clearly being kind to Sundering, realistically you will strike somewhere lower than this] a 60AL target will receive 20.9 damage on a successful sunder, being kind again this is +4 damage. Since its 20% sundering 20% of the time, you can only get this +4 damage with an expectaion of 1 in 5 hits. Compare this to Vampiric, +3 damage every hit, and you can see that in the same 5 hits you would do +3*5 = +15 damage PLUS you get a small net heal [daggers attack in 1.33s so in 4 seconds you attack 3 times and gain 9 health, you degenerate 8 health in this time; with 16 dager mastry and factoring Double Strikes you would attack with a mean rate of once per second and thus steal 12 in 4 seconds and lose 8].
If you change the comparison to a 100AL target the comparison gets even worse for Sundering. While you may ignore slightly more armour, ignoring armour simply servers to multiply your damage up slightly. A 100AL target halves stated damage, and so while you are multiplying your base damage by more, that base damage is smaller, and thus the damage gain is smaller. In this case you would hit for about +3.5 (best case) [0.4 damage less than against the 60 AL] with a 20/20 Sundering dagger over 5 hits, but you would still be getting +15 off the Vampiric. Heck, against a 100AL taget, which would realistically be a Warrior, just use an elemental weapon, thats essentially going to work out like a 20/100 Sundering (20% armour penetration always) AND it will ignore all their damage reduction modifiers since the recent update.

So that, in a nutshell, is your "for whatever reason".

Sundering sucks, go Zealous or Vampiric

Ya, sundering is the name for armor penetration, and as said, use vamp/zealous.

Vampiric gives you +3 extra damage always, regardless of armor/enchantments. But, Zealous is a good tang to use also.

Assasins need to at least have 1 dagger set with zealous to help regen energy for the next attack. I would say zealous before vamp

Of course, vampiric does mean that you'll lose health when not hitting a target (out of range, evasion, etc.), so it's not strictly better. But that is a lot more damage overall, and it's more reliable.

Energy or health degen when not attacking can be easily remedied by switching weapons between attacks.

I prefer the zealous though. +3 Damage isn't nearly as much fun as launching a lead attack a few seconds earlier.

that is why you switch weapons to something that doesn't drain while you are not attacking.
